Let’s talk Epigenetics and how both trauma and healing can alter our gene expression. 🧬 Research from National Library of Medicine shows that 50-85% of Americans experience at least one traumatic event during their lifetime. So - - Trauma can leave a CHEMICAL MARK on a person’s genes, which can then be PASSED DOWN TO FUTURE GENERATIONS & SO CAN HEALING. This mark doesn’t cause a genetic mutation, but it does alter the mechanism by which the gene is expressed. People who break negative generational cycles in families & communities often exhibit these characteristics: 1. Self-Awareness 2. Empathy 3. Courage Trauma can affect gene expression, and some of these changes can be passed on to offspring. But so can healing. And on the other side of breaking patterns of abandonment, addiction, narcissism, it psychological, physical, emotional, religious or sexual abuse is freedom and fulfillment and life and a community and chosen family that you might not have ever imagine.
